Restaurant Review:

Casa Mia Italian Restaurant
11675 N. 136th Street, Suite 107
Scottsdale, AZ 85259

I've dined at Casa Mia more than a dozen times, and I love that they are an authentic family owned Italian restaurant. Their desserts are superb in taste and unique in presentation. The Spumoni is surprisingly the star of all of the options. Instead of being just a scoop of ice cream in a dish, it is a large cut wedge, full of vibrant fruit flavors and fresh nuts, presented on a plate. The chocolate lava cake is very rich (served in a glass, rather than on a plate). The Tiramisu is not traditional with the sponge cake lady fingers; it is a layered mousse in a martini-like dessert glass topped with whipped cream. We have ordered the Osso bucco many times, and it is always very tender. My favorite entree is the homemade Gnocchi topped with four cheeses. However, on this last visit, I ordered the Mushroom Risotto, and it was definitely a fail, especially for a true Italian restaurant. Although the rice was cooked al dente, the texture of the risotto lacked fluidity and was a dense mound with an overpowering taste of mushrooms. My other concern, was that the iced tea that I ordered tasted as if it had been sitting in it's container for much too long, and had gone bad.
